Close to the Broken Hearted

Psalm 34:18 says "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

I love this song by Hillsong called "Cry of the Broken" especially inlight of the verse above and because so many people are hurting and have experienced pain many more times than that which could ever be compared to a physical pain. And God's Word says that He is close to the broken hearted, to those crushed in spirit.

The first photo is my dad pretending to sleep in my Lazy Susan. The second photo is literally my first sip of juice after a month. One thing that I hated the most during my time in ICU was having the ventilator down my throat to help me breathe. This was for several reasons. Firstly, with the ventilator in I could not talk so anything I communicate took a lot of strength which I did not have. Secondly, I could not drink or eat anything and felt thirsty constantly; yet when I dreamt of eating anything(which was often), I would wake up feeling very nauseous . This and nightmares made me scared of sleeping even though it was what I did most of the time. Thirdly, the nurses had to suction me a few times a day to remove all the flem from the tube and my lungs. This was especially horrible after they discovered the sepsis, because my abdomen had to be kept upon as they had to clean my abdomen every other day and could obviously not cut me open every other day and close me up again. *"Winter" wonderland time*

So It seems thanksgiving is this Thursday which means its time to get the Christmas tree up. Now I don't actually celebrate thanksgiving but I use to LoVe it when our American friends would invite us over to celebrate their tradition. Sometimes we would have 2 thanksgivings, one in October and another in November celebrating with Canadians and Americans respectively.  Even our Bahraini neighbours are celebrating thanksgiving! But tomorrow is just another holiday for me since exams are over! So back to the Christmas tree. It feels like AGES ago that we have set up a Christmas tree in our house. I can't actually remember the last time, as I know we skipped a year or two. My family have never been big on all the decorations and presents that come with Christmas(only good times with family and friends) although I use to try and bring the Christmas cheer and encourage participation. Decisions

So the end of this year is drawing near and I must make a definite decision of where I want to be next year, Pretoria or Bahrain. I have changed my mind as often as I've changed my facebook status, which to me, is quite often! There are many reasons for this, some of which I will share in this post. Pretoria, or South-Africa, is a place where I have had, definitely, some of my best memories in life, mainly because of the friends I made and people who I have come to know there, BUT it is also the place where I have had some of my worst times i.e. last year. One thing that SA represents to me is insecurity. It is there that I have not only had to be independent and on my own but also the place where I have experienced "fear" in such a real, almost evil, way.
